The Trust believes we have an alternative scheme which would let the Club retain their expected income but would strengthen the fans input into the Club by making the fans a major shareholder in Norwich City Football Club. If every season ticket holder due a rebate joined the Supporters Trust and donated their rebates to the Trust, then the Trust would pass the money back to the Club in return for Ordinary Shares. A formal request for this to be made an official option for season ticket holders has been made.
The Trust believes such action by the fans would not only register their concern at the way the Club has declined but also gives the fans a much greater stake-holding in the Football Club. The ex-Chief Executive has said that a Fans’ Director on the Board would not work but if the Season Ticket holders did as we suggest with their rebate, the Trust would have probably the second or third largest shareholding in the Club.
With 18,000 members of the Trust, we do not believe this could be ignored from Board level. Almost certainly from that 18,000 membership, there would emerge suitable candidates with the necessary business experience to become a valuable member of the Football Club Board. These candidates would go through a democrat election process by the 18,000 members of the Trust before receiving our nomination.
It is often said that Fan Directors can only work in the lower leagues, well that is where we are and we believe it is time for the Club to seriously consider our request for a democratically elected fan on the Board of Norwich City Football Club. If our request was backed by the second or third largest stake-holding in the Club then the Board would have to listen to our case.
